Innovations in Construction Equipment and Trucking using a Biomimicry Approach – EXPE 2023

Recently, students from Blekinge Institute of Technology in Sweden and Stanford University collaborated on a project focusing on innovations in construction equipment and trucking through the application of Biomimicry principles. Over a span of nine months, four students from Blekinge and six students from Stanford embarked on an exciting journey to explore innovation opportunities in partnership with Volvo Group.

Big thinking in Blekinge: How do you build a Moonshot?

To celebrate the fact that the Building Moonshot book was released the event “Big Thinking in Blekinge” was held with Blue Science Park and Blekinge Institute of Technology as organisers. Authors Tamara Carleton and  William R. Cockayne, both researchers and senior lecturers at Product Development Research Lab / Mechanical Engineering, started out with sharing nuggets and insights from the book with the crowd of physical and virtual attendees.

Elektriska entreprenadmaskiner utanför elnätet?

Karl-Henrik, Hedvig, Stefan och Ludwig skapade tillsammans med Stanfordstudenter Nomad och Oasis – två enheter som tillsammans kan generera och distribuera energi till eldrivna maskiner utanför elnätet, till exempel vid katastrofarbeten. Projektet är en del av kursen ME310, en årlig kurs och ett globalt samarbete med Stanford University där bland annat Volvo Construction Equipment utmanar studenter med verkliga problemställningar.

Wrapping up the Elektrifierad Infrastrukturbyggnation project

The “Elektrifierad Infrastrukturbyggnation” was a feasibility study conducted in close collaboration between Volvo Construction Equipment, Lund University and Blekinge University of Technology, funded by the Swedish Transport Administration. It aimed at investigating the conditions for carrying out major infrastructure projects emission- and fossil-free. The E20-Vårgårda-Bälinge road section was chosen as main case study in the project.

Produktutvecklingslabbet bjöd in till en eftermiddag i Karlskrona Makerspace där ungdomar fick delta i årets sportlovsaktivitet; att i team klura på design av en pod för Hyperloop och sedan implementera sina idéer.
